Lu Hickman Creative Co. Earns Double Honors at the 2025 HBMA Awards

Lu Hickman Creative Co. was recognized with two Lantern Awards at the Houston Business Marketing Alliance 2025 Lantern Awards of Texas — a gala celebration held at The Ballroom at Bayou Place that united the best marketing professionals in the city to honor outstanding work produced across industries. Walking away with two wins in the same night, for two clients in two very different sectors, was a milestone worth sharing. Not because of the trophies, but because of what the work represents.
Both projects were built for clients who operate in technical, high-stakes environments where marketing is rarely treated as a priority — and where getting it right can directly affect business outcomes. One was a sales brochure for an Oil & Gas technology company with an international footprint. The other was a complete brand identity system for a civil engineering firm competing for public infrastructure contracts across the Midwest.
Keep reading for a closer look at each project, what drove the creative decisions, and why industry-specific marketing expertise makes a difference in fields like AEC and Oil & Gas.
What the Lantern Awards Recognize: The HBMA Lantern Awards are judged by Texas' top marketing professionals and represent a genuine peer benchmark for strategic and creative excellence. For a boutique firm competing alongside larger agencies and in-house departments, two wins in a single year carries real weight — not just as a measure of craft, but as a validation of an approach that is deeply rooted in the industries we serve.
Project One: Enhanced Drilling Sales Brochure — Category I2: Capabilities Booklet or Brochure. Enhanced Drilling provides specialty well technology to oil companies around the world. Their EC-Drill MPD system is a step-change technology that addresses pressure-related challenges throughout the entire well construction process — covering managed pressure drilling, controlled mud level systems, riserless mud recovery, and cuttings transfer. They have deployed across more than 1,000 wells on semi-submersibles, drill ships, and jack-ups, with operations spanning Norway, Australia, Brazil, and the Gulf of Mexico.

Their sales materials had not been updated in over a decade. Lu Hickman Creative Co. led the full 2024 rebrand, and the new brochure was built to carry that visual identity forward — doing serious technical selling work for an international audience of drilling engineers and procurement leads.
The solution was a compact 8" x 5" format that unified the rebranded system with intention: product imagery framed in navy blue, technical specifications highlighted in the brand's official orange for fast visual scanning, and a layout that guides the reader through complex product benefits without overwhelming them. Every structural and visual decision was made in service of both comprehension and conversion.
The production spec was equally deliberate. The brochure was printed with water-based inks on 100% post-consumer recycled FSC-certified paper manufactured with renewable energy, finished with Swiss-stitch binding in biodegradable fiber. For a company whose technology exists partly to protect the seabed during deepwater drilling operations, the print execution aligned the physical object with the brand's environmental mission — not as a tagline, but as a material demonstration.
This is the kind of work AEC and Oil & Gas marketing demands: the ability to hold technical accuracy and creative clarity in the same piece, without sacrificing either.
Project Two: SINGH + Associates Brand Guidelines — Category K2: Identity Standards / Manual. SINGH + Associates is a multidisciplinary civil engineering firm of more than 60 professionals with deep roots in public infrastructure across the Midwest. Led by President Harvind K. Singh, the firm has spent decades delivering civil transportation, roadway lighting, ITS, MEP/FP, and construction management services. As they moved to strengthen their position as a prime consultant — not just a sub — they needed a brand identity that could carry that ambition across every client touchpoint, from proposals to social media to printed collateral.
Lu Hickman Creative Co. developed comprehensive online brand guidelines from the ground up. The work started with optical refinements to the existing logo, tightening its proportions without losing the equity the firm had already built. From there, the system expanded: custom iconography, Midwest state maps available in all brand color options, a geometric pattern library, and the Barlow typeface family — chosen for its balance of modern professionalism and readability across digital and print applications.
The guidelines cover every application relevant to a firm that competes in the AEC proposal environment: primary and secondary color palettes with approved pairings, logo clear space and minimum reproduction size standards, photography and graphic element direction, business card specifications, letterhead and Word template standards, email signature formats, and corporate promotional guidelines. Direct file links embedded in the online platform make the system immediately usable by the firm's internal team without having to chase down assets.
The brand was built specifically to perform in RFPs with page limitations, where visual clarity and differentiation directly affect evaluation scores. Anchored by the firm's new positioning line, "to venture beyond boundaries," the identity launched simultaneously across social media and technical proposals.
For AEC firms, brand consistency is not a matter of aesthetics. It is competitive infrastructure. A system this thorough reduces internal production friction, prevents off-brand execution by sub-consultants, and signals organizational maturity to the public agency evaluators who decide which firms make the short list.
Why Industry-Specific Marketing Expertise Matters: General marketing agencies can execute. What they rarely bring is fluency in the language, procurement structures, and credibility signals that govern AEC and Oil & Gas business development.
Lu Hickman Creative Co. was built in this space. With roots in technical proposals and over two decades of design experience across Houston, Chicago, and São Paulo, the firm understands RFP page limits, SF330 formatting, OTC exhibition logistics, brand rollouts inside engineering firms, and the visual expectations of clients in sectors where precision is the baseline standard.
The 2025 HBMA Lantern Awards validate what the firm's clients already know: that industry-specific marketing creative, executed at the highest level, wins business.
